SCCA Event 2 and Milwaukee Mile PDX

Well I've been a naughty little blogger and haven't updated jack shit lately.  Last week I had 2 different events going on, the local Milwaukee SCCA's event 2, and a PDX event at Milwaukee Mile.  Plus I've been running myself in circles trying to produce glass in the shop all week.

The PDX event, or Performance Driving Experience for you noobs, was at out lovely state fair park here in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Mile.  They use the full road course for these type of things because turning left nonstop is for, well, nascar people.  Anyways, on this day it was raining when we got there, rained more in the second session, and by the end we were running in total darkness with the headlights on with pouring rain and standing water all over the track.  I'm not super experienced with racing in the rain, so I was a bit nervous about all of these factors combined.  Did I mention that it was about 50 degrees F outside also?

As it turns out, racing in the wet and cold and dark is quite a bit of fun.  Once I got the braking points figured out it got easier.  Nibble a little bit out of each turn slowly each lap and it gets faster and faster.  By the end I was just touching the brake for a nanosecond into the big banked turn and then doing the turn flat out, very very fun.  But the big fat wall to your left with no runoff area is a pretty sobering thing to look at going through here.  I got a little slidey in the hairpins, but nothing out of the ordinary.  Overall had a great time and I'll definitely be going back.

And here's a video of one of my laps.  Sorry but the sound on these older gopro's are pretty sucky, even with the waterproof shell in place.

A few days later when things had dried off a bit I had an autocross at Miller Park here in Milwaukee.  This one was an SCCA event; my favorite group to run with.  It was pretty cloudy most of the day but thankfully the ground stayed dry all day, and we even got a bit of sun at one point.

I decided since it was nice out and somewhat warm that I would run the Hoosier A6's, which was a MAJOR improvement.  They usually require a little bit more surface temp than we had on this day but my runs were significantly faster than if I would have been on street tires.  I drove really hard though, and I think I may have used up a bit more tread than I needed to for today...such a tough thing to lay off of, that throttle.

Here's one of my last runs of the day, not too hot but a fun one nonetheless.

For this run I got things figured out and managed to pull first place for the day in Street Modified FWD.  This was my first trophy win, so I was super stoked!

And the wearable trophy I got for my day's work.
